Valentine, who was born in Hong Kong and raised in Oakland, headed east after graduating from UC Berkeley with a degree in fine art. Channeling her family’s haberdashery, she worked as a stylist and fashion editor for Dutch, W and Vogue before launching her own line of women’s clothing in 2005 and founded Park Deli in 2009.
